The tools in this category work on the actual file, not just the numbers around it. Both the image compressor and image resizer run entirely client-side, using your browser's built-in Canvas API to decode, transform and re-encode images without ever sending them to a server. That matters for two reasons: it's faster, since there's no upload or download step, and it's more private, since your photos never leave your device.

Reach for the image compressor when a file is the right size and shape but too heavy — a phone photo you want to email, or a product image that's slowing down a webpage. Reach for the resizer when the dimensions themselves are wrong, whether that's fitting an avatar into a square, a banner into a fixed pixel width, or a batch of photos into a consistent size before uploading them somewhere. The two are often used together: resize first to the dimensions you actually need, then compress to trim the remaining file size.

Because everything runs in-browser, there are no file-size limits imposed by an upload quota and no waiting on a server queue. The trade-off is that very old browsers or very large images (multi-hundred-megapixel files) can be slower, since your own device is doing the work — for the vast majority of everyday photos, it's close to instant.
