Mbps to MB/s Converter
Convert megabits per second (Mbps) to megabytes per second (MB/s). Includes the formula and a clear explanation of the difference.
How it works
Megabits per second (Mbps) and megabytes per second (MB/s) are both data-rate units, but they measure different things. A bit is 1/8 of a byte, so a 100 Mbps connection delivers a maximum of 12.5 MB/s in real terms.
The formula
MB/s = Mbps ÷ 8
For Kbps, first convert to Mbps (÷1,000) or directly to MB/s (÷8,000). For Gbps, multiply by 1,000 first, then divide by 8.
Examples
Common conversions:
- 10 Mbps = 1.25 MB/s
- 50 Mbps = 6.25 MB/s
- 100 Mbps = 12.5 MB/s
- 500 Mbps = 62.5 MB/s
- 1 Gbps = 125 MB/s
